Play Development Workshop and Fire! New Play Festival: New playwrights are selected into the Play Development Workshop based on the quality of their writing and their commitment to artistic and social justice ideals. During the 7-month workshop, Freedom Train commissions playwrights to write a new political play that features a Black LGBT protagonist. The search for the Train's 2009 Resident Playwrights has begun! Please download the annoucement here to get the full submission details.

Fire! is a free play festival that showcases the new work of Freedom Train playwrights to NYC theatre producers and the public.

Lead by FTP playwrights, Open Workshop is a writers salon for plays that feature protagonists characters that are thought of as underrepresented on stage. This workshop is free and open to the public. Open Workshop dates are posted on Freedom Train's email list. Sign up!

The Offstage Series is a talk back and community forum series that highlights the political issues our writers center their work around. A past Offstage Series event focused on police brutality and bystander intervention.

Our Long-Term Playwright Support Program identifies production opportunities for FTP playwrights; sends announcements about new productions of FTP developed plays to our e-list; and connects playwrights with leaders in NYC theatre.
