SUMMER 2010
Kinks and Politics
Unburdened
The Brecht Forum
451 West Street, Manhattan NYC
Artists and community share why black queer closets aren't as dark as you think at BLACK/OUT STORIES. Pigtails or Perm? Straight or Kinky? Locks or that fly Grace Jones flat top? Whatever the choice, KINKS AND POLITICS argues it's worthy political drama -- on stage and off. Today's emerging artists have freed their art from the burdens of representation by putting black emasculation, stereotypes, and [gasp!] white folk on a black stage. Join us at UNBURDENED to collectively scream What the f**k!?
OFFSTAGE FORUMS gather community and artists together to explore the broader questions of the political theatre that resident playwrights -- Steve Harper, Azure D. Osborne-Lee, and Jerome Parker -- create.
Freedom Train Productions programs these discussions during the play development process in order to strengthen idea exchanges between artists and audience. OFFSTAGE FORUMS are panel-free spaces and forums in the round that encourage everyone to participate and break the fourth wall of panel vs. audience, active vs. passive, and expert vs. non-expert.
These conversations are free and open to the public.
